Marketing at the gig
Each performance you do is a showcase to another performance. People who see you perform personally will be more likely to hire you than anyone else. Learn to increase your chances by bringing a friend along to help you do the work. Have him/her take testimonial videos and talk with people about having your perform at their event. What your friend (tell people he is your agent) says about you is worth a lot more than what you say about you.

Automatically get clients by systematizing your business
Think in terms of how to make your business work automatically. Think about what you would do if you could only work 4 hours a week. How would you change your business so you can be more productive? Instead of you making calls, get people to do it for you. Instead of sending a newsletter to several people, get an email marketing service. You should always think of ways to be more productive, not busy.

Networking
Networking is the number 1 way you will book gigs as an entertainer. People who have seen you personally will be more apt to hiring you instead of someone they have not seen. You want to meet people but networking is about getting people to want to meet you.

STOP giving people your business
Do you give people your business cards? If you do, then you're doing it wrong. Some people do not want your business card so they will just throw it away when you leave and you have wasted your time. Your goal is to get them to want your business cards...there is a huge difference.

Perceived value - how to charge more
Perceived value determines whether you are worth your asking price. Everything you do will either increase or decrease your value. The more value you have, the more you can charge.
Be aware of the places people see you perform at because it can hurt of help you.
Learn how to answer questions like:
"Where do you perform at"
"How much do you charge"
Use techniques during a performance like a short intro that increases your value.
And get lots of testimonials.

Phone Script
When people call you, you should have a phone script that you go by to increase your perceived value and give you better chances of being hired for the gig. Watch the video and take ideas to use in your phone script.
-use your schedule (real or fake) to create scarcity and the perception of being in demand
-future pacing: get them to see you performing at their event (assume you've already been hired)
-create a yes ladder
-do not place any dates on hold...get your contract signed and returned ASAP

Spin-off gigs are when someone hires you and other people at that event want to hire you for their party/function/etc. Another way of putting it is "word of mouth" but most entertainers leave this to chance...I don't.
Whenever you're in front of people performing, you should always think of ways to get them to want to hire you and recommend you to others.

How to book corporate gigs:
1. Associations
2. Hotel Crashing
3. Networking
So how do corporations hire entertainment?
1. They've seen you perform personally
2. A friend or colleague recommended you
3. They've seen you in the media (television, newspaper, radio)
4. An agency or event planner recommended you
5. You sent them your promotional material

Getting Testimonials
It is best to get the testimonial right after you performed so they still have the emotional drive in them while speaking on camera. Do not just have everyone rave about how great you are, tell people to describe what they felt before hiring you versus what they feel now.
If people describe the before and after then they will overcome objections in the minds of your buyers which makes things more effective for you.

Inevitability Thinking
Eben Pagen (aka David DeAngelo) has a concept known as Inevitability Thinking. This concept states: you need to set up the proper conditions to make your goals inevitable.
Most people start with a goal and try to figure out how to get there. But if you knew how to get there then you would already be there. What you need to do is set up the conditions that force you to move in one direction so your goal becomes inevitable.

Pricing
Your pricing reflects your image as an entertainer. People equate high price with high quality and vice versa.
To determine your prices you need to:
1) know the average price in your target market
2) decide on what type of image you want to project
3) charge on value, not hourly
4) worst advice EVER given
Target Marketing
If you're serious about getting paid to perform then you have to:
1) Define your target market
2) Determine the people you WON'T perform for
3) Find out how your buyers buy
First you have to determine what type of market you want to perform for.
After you have done this, you want to create a velvet rope policy by deciding who you won't perform for. If you accept any gig that comes your way then you will never develop the psychology of a successful entertainer.
And finally, you want to know how your buyers (the people that hire you) buy. Each target market buys entertainment differently. If you know your market then you need to know how they hire entertainers in that market.
